make-up, makeup book, museum

I finally feel close enough to one of my dreams to share it, (……drumroll).  For over a year and a half I have been working on a make-up artistry book, Rouge Opera.  Rouge Opera is a book that highlights make-up art as a museum style artform.  The book will take you through a tour of a Make-up Museum, Rouge Opera.  You will find models framed and used as a canvas for make-up art.  You will also find tips and tricks in a Beauty Archives section.  Rouge Opera will also focus on  the art of storytelling, and how it is the key ingredient in all make-up applications.  Rouge Opera could not be possible without the Principal Photographer of Inije Photography & Films, Charlton Inije.  This photgrapher played a huge role in this project because you will tour Rouge Opera through, his eyes, his lens.  Rouge Opera will display the marriage of two major arts, Make-up & Photography Art.

The goal of Rouge Opera is simple…just to inspire!  Inspire the hidden artist in all of us…and hopefully unlock the part of you where all your creative thoughts, dreams and aspirations are stored.  I am still dreaming……..Rouge Opera will be launched in FALL 2013!

Inspired by Mayda, Beach Wedding

what’s the story?

Mayda is getting married on a beautiful white sandy beach in the Dominican Republic.  Mayda would like a simple classic look that would be suitable for the beach.  Mayda does not want to feel like she is wearing make-up so she needs a look that is glamorous, suitable for the beach but most important light- weight and timeless.  The look that I designed for Mayda is classic and the color palette is peachy bronzy.  Let’s get married and look stunning!

Eyes are the windows to the soul, they should be enhanced and made to look very bright and open!

Recommendation:

Step#1-Prime your eyelids

MAC Paintpot-“Bare Study”- this is a creamy product, use a thin layer all over the lid (from lash line up to the brow bone).  This product will be used as a primer to extend the life of your eye shadow and to make your eye shadow color more vibrant.

Step#2- Eye shadow

Christian Dior- 5 Couleurs-“Rosy Tan, 754”- Color Key– Top Left-Pink, Top Right-Dark Brown, Bottom Left Bronzy, Bottom Right- Champagne, Center (CD)-Peachy.   Apply  Peachy (CD) to the outer lid (from the lash line to the crease), Apply Champagne (BR) to the outer lid, Apply Dark Brown (TR) to the crease.

 Step#3– Eyeliner

MAC Fluidline “Dipdown Brow”-this is a gel eyeliner and should be used with an angled eyeliner brush (MAC 266).  Dip your brush in the gel eyeliner and apply to the top lid (directly above the lash line and from the inner corner to the end of your lash liner).  Slightly extend the eyeliner beyond the lashes to get a winged look.

Step#4-Mascara, use black mascara to fully coat the top and bottom lashes

Even out your skin to create an even and flawless palette!

Recommendation:

Make-up Forever-Mat Velvet Plus “Color-60 or 65” (double check the color) – This is a velvet matte liquid foundation with a medium coverage.  Apply foundation lightly all over, work around the eye area, be careful not to disturb your eye shadow application

Contour your face with Bronzer!

Bare Minerals Bronzer “Warmth”- Apply “Warmth” lightly along the cheekbone (towards the ear) and lightly dust across the  forehead.  Bronzer is meant to create a sun kissed look, apply only where the sun would naturally hit the face.

Get ready to Blush!

MAC Blush “Ambering Rose”- this blush is in the coral (burnt orange) family.  Apply lightly only to the apples of the cheeks (can’t find your apples…smile).

First Kiss Lips!

MAC Lipstick- Viva Glam 5- this lipstick is neutral with a hint of peach, apply to the lips and define the cupids bow, then apply MAC Lustreglass “Love Nectar”.  Apply Love Nectar on top of the lipstick, this creates a rich neutral lip.  If you love lip liner I recommend MAC Lip liner “Cork”.  Apply lightly and blend in to create a natural line.

Extra Tips

-Waterproof Mascara

-If you cry, pat dry.  Do not rub or wipe

-Carry MAC blot film, this film is made to keep you looking fresh and absorb oils without disturbing your  make-up application

-If your dress is strapless, or if any part of the upper chest is exposed please use a shimmering bronzer.  Use the bronzer along the chest area and the arms.  I would recommend MAC loose “Golden Bronzer”

bronzy, golden, summer, summer glow

“I am celebrating my birthday next saturday with a pool party and would love any suggestions you have on achieving a nice sexy “summery glow”. by Alicia

Alicia, to create that sexy summer glow, the colors that come to mind for this season are CORALS, BRONZE and hints of GOLD!  Below you will find the cosmetic recipe for creating a fresh and bronzy summer glow!

FACE– Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer, Bronze Radiance, $42- apply all over your face, its bronzy, has illuminating pigments and has an spf of 20.  Gives your face a healthy glow with a hint of warmth (LOVE this product)

EYES– MAC Paint pot- Indianwood, $17.50-apply all over the lid, from the lash line to crease, and blend upward towards the brow bone.  The brow bone should be left natural. Add a light coat of mascara.  This gives the eyes that hint of gold and is subtle.

CHEEKS-Laura Mercier’s, Creme Blush, BLAZE, $22- Its a cream blush, apply with fingertips or a foundation brush.  Apply on the apples of the cheeks and blend outward (toward the ear).  This gives the cheeks a hint of coral, which brightens the face and gives a healthy fresh glow.

LIPS-Laura Mercier’s Lip Glace, Bellini, $24-Apply to both lips and be generous when applying to the bottom lip, to create a pouty lip.  This is a combination of coral with illuminating pigments.

BODY– Laura Mercier’s, Body Bronzing Make-up, $38- Apply on all exposed areas of the body.  Gives your body a bronzed and sunkissed look.  Use generously on the legs.  This is NOT a self tanning product, so at the end of the day it can be washed off. (LOVE this!!)

bad skin, good skin, hyperpigmentation, skin, skincare

Many years ago when I fell in love with make-up, the only thing that mattered was color cosmetics.  I was drawn to the amazing colors in eye shadows and especially lipsticks.  I went to the MAC counter and it was  special event to pick out eyeshadows, lipsticks, and eye liners to add to my collection.  As I became more comfortable applying make-up, my collection quickly grew to the foundation, concealer and all  categories in the make-up arena.  I was the make-up queen (not a drag queen, lol) with so much make-up that I created a custom look everyday.  I quickly developed the bad habit of not taking off my make-up and cleansing my skin.  When I did decide to wash my face, I used bathing soap. As a result, my skin was constantly, irritated, broken out and I suffered from hyperpigmentation. My skin started to look so bad without make-up, that foundation and concealer was must, even on the beach.

After awhile, I decided to take care of my skin.  Because I knew I could never give up wearing make-up, I purchased and began a skin care system. I also had to invest in a good eye make-up remover.  So, all the ladies that love make-up, please take care of your skin.  Invest in a good skin care line, it’s actually more important than the make-up.  It’s not all about COLOR!

Things you should know before getting skincare products- What type of skin do you have Normal, Oily, Dry, Combination? Do you suffer from Acne? What results do you want from your skincare?

Most skincare routines include a: Cleanser, Toner, Moisturizer and some may add Serums, Exfoliators and a Mask

Tip#1-Make-up will look and feel better on great skin

Tip#2-Do your research on what skincare line best suits your skin and your budget
