Inspired by Mayda, Beach Wedding

what’s the story?

Mayda is getting married on a beautiful white sandy beach in the Dominican Republic.  Mayda would like a simple classic look that would be suitable for the beach.  Mayda does not want to feel like she is wearing make-up so she needs a look that is glamorous, suitable for the beach but most important light- weight and timeless.  The look that I designed for Mayda is classic and the color palette is peachy bronzy.  Let’s get married and look stunning!

Eyes are the windows to the soul, they should be enhanced and made to look very bright and open!

Recommendation:

Step#1-Prime your eyelids

MAC Paintpot-“Bare Study”- this is a creamy product, use a thin layer all over the lid (from lash line up to the brow bone).  This product will be used as a primer to extend the life of your eye shadow and to make your eye shadow color more vibrant.

Step#2- Eye shadow

Christian Dior- 5 Couleurs-“Rosy Tan, 754”- Color Key– Top Left-Pink, Top Right-Dark Brown, Bottom Left Bronzy, Bottom Right- Champagne, Center (CD)-Peachy.   Apply  Peachy (CD) to the outer lid (from the lash line to the crease), Apply Champagne (BR) to the outer lid, Apply Dark Brown (TR) to the crease.

 Step#3– Eyeliner

MAC Fluidline “Dipdown Brow”-this is a gel eyeliner and should be used with an angled eyeliner brush (MAC 266).  Dip your brush in the gel eyeliner and apply to the top lid (directly above the lash line and from the inner corner to the end of your lash liner).  Slightly extend the eyeliner beyond the lashes to get a winged look.

Step#4-Mascara, use black mascara to fully coat the top and bottom lashes

Even out your skin to create an even and flawless palette!

Recommendation:

Make-up Forever-Mat Velvet Plus “Color-60 or 65” (double check the color) – This is a velvet matte liquid foundation with a medium coverage.  Apply foundation lightly all over, work around the eye area, be careful not to disturb your eye shadow application

Contour your face with Bronzer!

Bare Minerals Bronzer “Warmth”- Apply “Warmth” lightly along the cheekbone (towards the ear) and lightly dust across the  forehead.  Bronzer is meant to create a sun kissed look, apply only where the sun would naturally hit the face.

Get ready to Blush!

MAC Blush “Ambering Rose”- this blush is in the coral (burnt orange) family.  Apply lightly only to the apples of the cheeks (can’t find your apples…smile).

First Kiss Lips!

MAC Lipstick- Viva Glam 5- this lipstick is neutral with a hint of peach, apply to the lips and define the cupids bow, then apply MAC Lustreglass “Love Nectar”.  Apply Love Nectar on top of the lipstick, this creates a rich neutral lip.  If you love lip liner I recommend MAC Lip liner “Cork”.  Apply lightly and blend in to create a natural line.

Extra Tips

-Waterproof Mascara

-If you cry, pat dry.  Do not rub or wipe

-Carry MAC blot film, this film is made to keep you looking fresh and absorb oils without disturbing your  make-up application

-If your dress is strapless, or if any part of the upper chest is exposed please use a shimmering bronzer.  Use the bronzer along the chest area and the arms.  I would recommend MAC loose “Golden Bronzer”

“I am celebrating my birthday next saturday with a pool party and would love any suggestions you have on achieving a nice sexy “summery glow”. by Alicia

Alicia, to create that sexy summer glow, the colors that come to mind for this season are CORALS, BRONZE and hints of GOLD!  Below you will find the cosmetic recipe for creating a fresh and bronzy summer glow!

FACE– Laura Mercier’s Tinted Moisturizer, Bronze Radiance, $42- apply all over your face, its bronzy, has illuminating pigments and has an spf of 20.  Gives your face a healthy glow with a hint of warmth (LOVE this product)

EYES– MAC Paint pot- Indianwood, $17.50-apply all over the lid, from the lash line to crease, and blend upward towards the brow bone.  The brow bone should be left natural. Add a light coat of mascara.  This gives the eyes that hint of gold and is subtle.

CHEEKS-Laura Mercier’s, Creme Blush, BLAZE, $22- Its a cream blush, apply with fingertips or a foundation brush.  Apply on the apples of the cheeks and blend outward (toward the ear).  This gives the cheeks a hint of coral, which brightens the face and gives a healthy fresh glow.

LIPS-Laura Mercier’s Lip Glace, Bellini, $24-Apply to both lips and be generous when applying to the bottom lip, to create a pouty lip.  This is a combination of coral with illuminating pigments.

BODY– Laura Mercier’s, Body Bronzing Make-up, $38- Apply on all exposed areas of the body.  Gives your body a bronzed and sunkissed look.  Use generously on the legs.  This is NOT a self tanning product, so at the end of the day it can be washed off. (LOVE this!!)

Primers!

First Base- Time 2 Prime

The key to a long lasting and flawless make-up application is to prime.  Similar to a state of the art paint job, in order to achieve color pay off and a lasting impression, it is recommended to use a primer.  In the world of cosmetics, a primer serves as a base and usually has different functions, depending on the primer.  We have primers for the face, eyelids and lips.  Each primer has one thing in common, to coat and prep the skin for the next step, which is usually a make-up application.  I will discuss my favorite primers.  Primers that give ultimate “staying power”, color pay off and much much more!

Face

After applying moisturizer (I prefer a tinted moisturizer) and eye cream the very next step before applying make-up is priming.  Some primers serve a dual purpose, as a moisturizer and a primer.  I use a primer to reduce texture and fine lines and to extend the life of my make up application. My favorite primer is from Bare Escentuals.  Prime Time, bareVitamins is an award winning primer.  I use it on all my make-up applications.  Primetime helps reduce the appearance of enlarged pores and uneven texture in your skin.  It has vitamins C & E, and plant extracts to soothe your skin. It’s also preservative free.  It feels WONDERFUL on your face.  You only need a small amount and it leaves your skin feeling silky, smooth and matte at the same time.  It creates a smooth canvas for your foundation to lay on. Primetime extends the life of your foundation, and it prepares your skin for a flawless make-up application.

Eyes

Before applying any eye cosmetics (eye shadow, eyeliner, mascara), I definitely recommend a primer.  Because your eyes stay open at least 50% (mine stay open 75%) of the day or more, a primer helps your eye make-up stay put.  It’s very important to know what type of skin you have around your eyes (your lid and under your eyes).  This is going to help you pick a primer that caters specifically to your eye needs (meaning if you have oily lids you want a primer with oil absorbers).  I have two favorite eye primers; MAC paints and MAC paint pot. If I need to wear my make-up ten plus hours, and for it to be totally crease resistant, I wear the MAC paints.  It comes is a small metallic like tube Although the tube is small, a little goes a long way.  MAC paints come in a variety of colors.  So you have the option to wear it alone or enhance the color you put on top.  Although you can wear it alone, I prefer it as a base.  This product goes on creamy but dries to a powdery finish. It is very important that you apply a thin layer.  My other favorite primer is the MAC paint pot.  I use this product for its dual purpose.  It also comes in a variety of colors and finishes (matte or slightly metallic).  This product I sometimes wear alone.  Because of the beautiful colors the paint pots are available in, I find myself sometimes wearing it as a primary shadow.  My favorite colors are Indian wood (bronzy/gold) and Abstract (burgundy/wine).  Paint pots can also be worn as a base to enhance any eye shadow color you choose to put on top.  I recommend that you use shades that are similar to the base color.  Paint pots are creamier in texture than MAC paints.  They don’t dry down to a powdery finish, but the finish is still long wearing.  I still recommend that you use a thin layer.  It comes in a glass jar, and a little goes a long way, just remember to close the jar after every use.

Lips

Have you ever had the most perfect red lipstick and after about an hour of wearing it, it starts to bleed or feather out?  Because I am a huge fan of red lipstick (or any other rich pigmented color), this has happened to me several times. Although there are several products on the market, that claim to prevent feathering and bleeding, I still haven’t found the perfect lip primer for me.  I have put together a recipe that works best for me.  The first thing I do is use Mineral Veil powder, from Bare Mineral.  I also recommend any loose blot powder or any kind of powder that has a form of oil absorbers (talc, silica, corn starch).  I use a small amount of mineral veil buffed on my lips and around my lips.  Then I line my lips with a pencil lip liner (not a roll up lip liner), the drier the lip liner the better.  I then apply my lipstick, I try not to use glossy or moist textures.  After I apply my lipstick, I slightly (very lightly) dust mineral veil again.  I use a small amount of concealer on an angle brush and apply around my mouth (this defines your new red lips more and it helps prevents feathering, blend very well).  Then I retouch my lip liner and place a small amount of red lip gloss in the center of my bottom lip.  So overall, my primer for lips, are Mineral Veil and MAC studio finish concealer.  This process makes my lipstick bullet proof and bleeding and feathering doesn’t happen.

Eye Shadow Basics 101

Follow these 6 steps to give your eyes a whole new wardrobe!

Prep

Clean Face

Groomed Brows

3+ Eye Shadows

Eye Shadow Brushes

Eye Liner

Mascara

1-Primer An eye shadow primer is to provide a base coat, which will enhance any eye shadow color you apply on top, and to absorb oils, so that your eye shadow is crease resistant and has “staying” power. Apply a thin coat of primer all over the eyelid (from the lash line to the brow).

2-Lid Color Apply the lid color from the inner corner to the outer corner of the eyelid.  Bring your lid color up to where the eye naturally creases. Use a blending (fluffy) brush to blend away any hard lines.  Notice that your lid has three distinct sections inner (closest to the nose) middle and outer, for a more advance technique, you can use different colors in each section.

3-Crease Color The crease color shapes the eye and adds a contour that can be natural or dramatic depending on what color eye shadow is used. It is recommended to apply your crease color with a small head fluffy brush or some vendors make crease brushes. The crease color should mimic a small “V”, starting from the outer lash line and following the contour of the eye.  You can bring the crease color midway or across the full length of the eye.  Blend crease color in a wind shield wiper motion. For a quick smoky eye- use a deep pigmented color in your crease (black, dark brown, etc.)

4-Brow Bone Directly under your brows, is your brow bone.  To create color harmony, it is recommended to use a light shade of color.  This color should not compete with the lid or crease color.

5-Eye Liner Eyeliner should be applied directly above the top lash line.  For a more dramatic look you can apply eyeliner, on the bottom lid and under the top lash line.

6-Mascara Apply mascara through the full length of the lash, starting at the base of the lashes, and slightly shaking the mascara wand through to the tip of the lashes. Repeat

How to add Glamour in 10 minutes?

Get Lashy! Get Beautiful!

Get Lashy in minutes, and lashes you can do all by yourself.   Change your look, enhance your natural lashes, or head for a transformation.  Lashes will do it!  Now you hold the key to the lash bar, all you have to do is decide your desired “lashy” look and follow the simple steps to Get Lashy!

Lashes are Timeless

The creation of false lashes date back to 1916, by film director, D.W. Griffith.  Lashes were initially created for dramatic transformations in movies and theatre.  Then over the years they have become apart of many Beauty icons make –up routine.  Celebrities from all media outlets (Marilyn Monroe, Beyonce, Tyra Banks, Rupaul, etc.) loved the look of fabulous long full lashes. Today this fashion trend continues.

How to Get Lashy? Tools needed

-Mirror (preferable an adjustable mirror with lights)

-Tweezers

-Lash Curler

-Scissors (to customize width if needed)

-Duo Adhesive

Steps

  1. Curl natural lashes and swipe a coat of  mascara
  2. Identify which lash is for which eye ( right or left)

(HINT- usually the inner corner of the lash (close to your nose) is distinguished by a shorter length; the outer corner of the lash (closer to your ear) is usually longer in length

  1. Carefully remove the lashes from the packaging

-you can use tweezers and gently grab one end & gently pull the lash from the packaging (a peeling motion)

-or use your thumb and slide the lash in a downward motion

  1. Take the lash and measure the width (from the inner corner of the eye to the outer corner of the eye) against your own natural lashes, if the false lash band is too long (as far as width) use a scissor to cut and tailor the false lashes to perfectly fit the width of your natural lash line
  2. After you have customized your lashes, place a thin stripe of Duo Adhesive on the lash band
  3. Remember the false lashes are supposed to be placed directly on top of the natural lashes, but is to be adhere to the skin directly above the natural lash line, HINT-just for a little help with placement,  use a dark eye liner and draw a thin line directly above your natural lash line ( try to draw the line very close to your natural lash line), this line is your target mark to place your false eyelashes
  4. Place the false lashes, and slightly adjust to perfectly fit and allow a few minutes to dry in place
  5. YOU ARE LASHY!
